Colouring techniques: The finer points
- Never exert excessive pressure on the paper.
- Make sure you keep the colouring pencils sharp. Use a proper "coloured" pencil sharpener such as the Bruynzeel models detailed in the catalogue - they sharpen coloured pencils at a steeper angle creating a shorter, fine point, thus retaining more of the wood casing around the softer colour strip - reducing breakages and cutting away less colour!
- Begin by applying colour to the larger areas first.
- Fill in the lighter shades first, then the darker shades.
- To create the colour shades you want, apply several layers over one another.
- Use good quality paper, such as Fabriano - the world's best range of artist's papers.
